PRESS RELEASE: Smoke Breaks Banned as Bowlo Goes on Health Kick

SMOKE breaks will be banned under a new enterprise agreement signed by workers at Ballina’s Cherry Street Sports Club.

The agreement has also introduced quit smoking incentives, flu vaccinations and cancer screening procedures.

Club chief executive, Tere Sheehan, said it was part of a push to improve employees’ health and welfare.

He also said employment conditions were now “well in excess of the award”, with the aim of retaining the “current excellent team of staff”.

Cherry Street Sports Club is working towards becoming an “Employer of Choice” on the Northern Rivers.

The enterprise agreement – which has been approved by the Fair Work Commission – had unanimous support from staff, Mr Sheehan said.

Effective Workplace Solutions’ principal consultant, Greg Arnold, helped develop what he called a “win-win” agreement.
